Ratna Sri Wijesinghe

Ratna Sri Wijesinghe (born 2 June 1953) is an award winning Sri Lankan songwriter.  He was a pioneer poet of the 80's and was a lyricist who made a powerful contribution to the field of Sinhala poetry as well as Sinhala music.  In the face of the consumerist economy, he examines the physical and spiritual realities of human lives, which depend on stress and competition, and all interpersonal relationships, including human love.  Although not immersed in the art of propagandistic tendencies, his creations elicit a profound and comprehensive view of social justice.  He draws close to his comrade as a restrained and powerful poet who has learned the teachings of classical literature and is passionate about folk literature.
